Leavin’ Alberta

I’m heading to the airport soon, flying back home after this Alberta tour. The last time I was in the province, I was riding trains and Greyhound buses. This time, I rented a car and saw more of Alberta than I ever had before. From the badlands to the canyons in dinosaur country, to prairie fields, to downtown Calgary, to the mountains in Banff and Lake Louise. I met some wonderful people along the way, all working to bring art and music and food and a social conscience to their communities.

Next up is the Folk Music Ontario conference in Toronto in October. Four days packed with workshops, showcases, panels, and jams – the annual Folk Family Reunion.

Where two lakes meet

The start of September brought perfect driving weather all the way along the 17 to where Huron and Superior meet. Another full house in Richards Landing, including many familiar faces from last year. Smoked fish. Wading in the water at Harmony Beach before playing a show in the Soo. Savouring the freshest food on the Weir family farm in McKellar, followed by a house concert at the Strawhouse Gallery, and a dip in Georgian Bay. Thanks, North Ontario. I wish I could have gone further, stayed longer.

I’m headed to Alberta later this month! There might be snow on the ground. I’ll be in Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Calgary, and Cochrane – for full details, check out the gigs page.
