For the love of…

More than a year has passed since I last played music for a live audience.

I miss it so much.

I miss the folk club chili and the state park hikes and the strange requests from border guards and the prayers for fragile flight cargo and the stories at the merch table and the hugs in the parking lot.

I miss the singalongs and the shaky new songs and the songwriters-in-the-rounds. I miss being glad to see people arriving in crowds.

I’ve been making music in the distance. I’ve been making art alone, housebound, locked down. And in the coming months I’ll be sharing it with you. And hoping we can be together like this again soon.

Women of Folkways lives on

Four years ago, I was hiking through national parks around Alberta, eating pierogies made by church ladies, and taking Daisy the dog for walks across frozen Edmonton parks.

I was supposed to be touring Alberta again this winter with a new album in hand, but of course, things change.

But some things stay the same – I’m delighted to be part of Women of Folkways again this year! This live stream will feature myself along with Linda McRae, Maria Dunn, Terry Morrison, Rachel Eddy, and host Dana Wylie, each singing one of our own songs and one song by a woman on the Folkways recording catalogue.

Free to watch on Facebook or the Sound Studies Institute website starting at 7:00 PM Mountain Time on February 20. Presented by the Northern Lights Folk Club and the Sound Studies Institute at the University of Alberta.
